People ask me why I go to Kashmir so often.<\/p>\n
They suspect that I go to Kashmir
\nTo meet a beautiful damsel with a luscious child-like voice,
\nAdorned with a bewitchingly cherubic smile that
\nis punctuated with sweet talk,
\nWho is equipped with
intelligence but whose heart is pregnant with love,
\nWho believes that one should live for life\u2019s glory.<\/p>\n
I wish that were true,
\nBut I go to Kashmir often because of another
\ndamsel who is known as Kasheer,
\nMy love for her goes back to my childhood.<\/p>\n
Kashmir has held me in her arms often with love humans cannot give,
\nOne could live without love but life wouldn\u2019t be the same,
\nShe has met my bad moods with tender caring,
\nShe has both been my mother and beloved at the same time,
\nA timeless relationship in this time-bound world.<\/p>\n
God deemed that I have a rendezvous with her,
\nOur love affair is ancient,
\nI cannot imagine what my life would be without her,
\nIf at all it would exist.<\/p>\n
Her mountains, lakes, valleys,
and trees are her ornaments
\nThat she wears in mirth with great abandon,
\nHer splendorous seasons are her moods.<\/p>\n
She looks aloof to people
\nBut actually she is intimately connected with them,
\nShe seems arrogant,
\nBut her humility is infinite.<\/p>\n
Kashmir is a grace that is now frozen in time,
\nA light that has dimmed,
\nBut as long as people live Kashmir will remain
\nAn alluring and enigmatic place on earth,
\nFor its thirst for spirituality and knowledge in the past.<\/p>\n
