Raj Begum continues to have a special aura among the singers of Kashmir.<\/p>\n

It is because she had a high-pitch, deep-drilling, haunting voice, that<\/p>\n

touches the timeless and sorrowful plateau of a listener\u2019s psyche. Sorrow,<\/p>\n

more than joy, touches the deepest chords of human soul. There were<\/p>\n

and are other good singers but none has the sorrowful, almost mournful<\/p>\n

voice that Raj Begum had.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Those of you have read my article Meeting Raj Begum know that I was<\/p>\n

able to get thirty songs of Raj Begum in 1988 with considerable difficulty,<\/p>\n

as they were not available commercially. I pleaded with Director of Radio<\/p>\n

Kashmir in 2011 to release them to public as they were a public treasure<\/p>\n

but that was not of any avail. Raj Begum\u2019s songs started coming on You<\/p>\n

Tube just a few years ago, but they are only few.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In early 90\u2019s I released a few of Raj Begum\u2019s songs to KP Network,<\/p>\n

if that is the correct name. Now I have decided to release twenty-one<\/p>\n

of the thirty-one songs of Raj Begum that I possess. It is being done<\/p>\n

through Google Drive. But that only creates listings alphabetically and<\/p>\n

not according to the desired order in which its author would like to<\/p>\n

publish them, according to the quality of the songs.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In my, and that of the many Kashmiri music professionals\u2019 estimation,<\/p>\n

following are the six greatest songs sung by Raj Begum:<\/p>\n

  2. vaisey gulon aavuy bahar<\/li>\n
  3. kya kya wanay dost che<\/li>\n
  4. rum ghayam sheeshas byegur gov bane myon<\/li>\n
  5. kyah roze pardan chaaye chaaye soze-jigar myon<\/li>\n
  6. wal az vaisey dokh mashravith sheraw loluk bagh (duet)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    I am sorry that I do not have \u201c kyah roze pardon chaay chaaye<\/p>\n

    soze-jigar myon\u201d song. The \u201crum ghayam sheeshas\u201d song has<\/p>\n

    been obtained through Youtube, it is given after the Google Drive<\/p>\n

    listing.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    As stated earlier, as the Google Drive listing is not according to<\/p>\n

    the merit of the song, therefore, I am suggesting that the listeners<\/p>\n

    use the following hierarchy:<\/p>\n
