Both-sided neck/base of the skull tension is the most common neck complaint, Kieran has probably treated thousands over the years. There are 4 main factors why this is a common area of complaint.
- There are over a dozen muscles that attach to the upper neck/base of the skull and these stem other areas of the spine such as the mid/upper back, shoulders, and front on the neck, there are also several trigger points that refer to the base of the skull.
- The joints in the upper neck are pain sensitive, as there are a dozen or so muscles attaching to the upper neck this can compress and aggravate the sensitive joints causing pain and stiffness. This is why it’s best to get a treatment that treats the muscles with chiropractic adjustments.
The skull, which is fixed/immobile is sitting on the realtive mobile upper neck, with many sensory nerve input and can be an area that is more secceptable to strain. - Two constants in most people’s lives are sitting for extended periods and stress, which are two common aggravating factors, that cuase tension at the base of the shull.
