This is probably the most common type of lower back pain that Kieran treats on a daily basis, it is usually described more as an “ache” or “tension” rather than pain specifically. It typically runs at or just above the belt, on both sides, and may extend further up the lower back. It is usually felt when sitting or standing for extended periods, or particular exercises or movements that involve either bending forwards or backward. Many people with this type of back pain wake quite stiff and achy, the pain tends to ease after 15 minutes – 30 minutes but then returns later in the day after sitting at work.
Many structures potentially cause tension here, such as the muscles, joints, facia, and to a lesser extent tendons and ligaments. The main muscles/fascia are the thoracolumbar fascia, erector spinea, QL muscles, and the joints of the lower spine, getting the muscles/fascia treated (deep tissue massage, cupping, fascial manipulation, etc..) with chiropractic adjustments usually ensures the best results. As with most back pain, it’s important to get sufficient movement and change of postures throughout the day as well as regular exercise and being mindful when doing unaccustomed activities such as lifting boxes, gardening, etc….
Kieran combines many soft-tissue techniques with chiropractic spinal adjustments as well as strategies and lifestyle advice for a holistic approach to low back pain. If you’re looking for an expert diagnose and treatment for your lower back pain, book to see Kieran today.
