My passion for fitness and nutrition started in middle school; I was known as the little fat kid and teased while playing baseball. My brother also convinced me that the stronger, quicker athlete had a better chance of success. While playing school and competitive sports through high school and into college, I continued to train. I ate what I wanted during those days. Because I was young, I could get away with it.
Fitness is My Passion
Bit By the Wellness Bug
When my competitive days were over, I still had the fitness bug and delved into distance running and cycling. I was able to complete a mini-triathlon, marathon, and numerous 100-mile bicycle races. That’s when I realized the importance of nutrition and how it affected my life and training needs.
After my season of endurance event training, I started to focus on weight training and total body conditioning. I then came to the final component of what I feel made me my most complete. I realized how complex I am. I continuously overtrained, which caused numerous injuries and setbacks. I also finally realized people are not like me. I now try to understand the how and why of mine and other people’s thoughts and actions. The light bulb went on; understanding and empathy improves relationships. My improved reflective mindfulness has improved my life.
The Three Key Components
I’ve been through the ups and downs of life, and I’m still learning. I hope you are too! My intent with Nate’s Healthy Living is to express my thoughts in each of these three areas to help you and me through life!
